Hoosier D.O.T. DRAG RADIAL 2
The D.O.T. Drag Radial 2 is a redesigned tire by Hoosier specifically for drag racers participating in sanctioned events at local strips. These tires incorporate Hoosier's proven technology and compounds, making them an excellent choice for competition classes that require street-legal tires. However, it is crucial to note that these tires are not intended for use on public highways. Operating any Hoosier Racing Tire, including the D.O.T. Drag Radial 2, on public roads can lead to safety hazards such as loss of traction, unexpected loss of vehicle control, or sudden tire pressure loss, potentially causing accidents resulting in injury or death. Additionally, like other Track & Competition DOT tires, the D.O.T. Drag Radial 2 should not be used, stored, or serviced in freezing temperatures, snow, or on ice. The D.O.T. Drag Radial 2 tires feature a special tread compound with a primarily slick design interrupted by five circumferential grooves. These grooves alternate between the outboard and inboard sections of the tread. Starting with a molded tread depth of only 4/32", the tires are ready for competition after a scuff-in process. The tire's improved tread profile contributes to delivering top-notch performance. Its internal structure consists of symmetric nylon cord casing plies reinforced by two lightweight belts and spirally wrapped nylon reinforcement under the tread. When it comes to preparing these tires for use, Hoosier recommends a burnout procedure for most cars. This procedure involves wetting the tires by rolling through the water box, initiating the burnout, and then slowing down the burnout once the tires start to "haze." The goal of the burnout is to remove any debris from the tires and heat the tread's surface. It is important to monitor the length of the burnout as excessive burnout can significantly impact the tire's treadlife. If necessary, shorten the burnout time in the water box to protect the tire from excessive wear. The design and construction of the D.O.T. Drag Radial 2 tires allow for installation on either side of the car. To promote even treadwear and smooth out any inconsistencies, Hoosier suggests regularly swapping the tires from side-to-side. This practice also exposes the tires to different wear patterns, contributing to improved tread cleanliness. The ideal tread surface should display a fine grain or velvet appearance. In terms of tire storage, the overall lifespan, whether the tire is mounted or dismounted, is directly influenced by storage conditions. It is recommended to store tires indoors in a dark, cool, and dry room. When storing, remove the tires from the vehicle, release the air pressure, and lay them on their sides. It is crucial to maintain the storage location's temperature between 40-90 degrees Fahrenheit. Avoid storing tires in sub-freezing temperatures as this can cause the rubber to freeze and potentially lead to cracking. Following these guidelines ensures optimal performance and longevity for the D.O.T. Drag Radial 2 tires, both on and off the track.
